Paralympics......

I know its all over, so I saved this memory till now..the most amazing memory, and experience, for me, of the entire games. It was all great an amazing but ......

On the day we went, there was a 400m relay, with impaired vision athletes. Before the start, the commentator told us we had to be completely quiet for the start of the race, and then to be quiet until the last athlete took the baton. This was because they had to rely on their assistants, who would be running with them, to let them know when to hand over the baton. To be present when a Stadium of 80000 people, completely and utterly, did not make a sound. I didn't even take a picture, because of the clicking !!!!!

The silence....the shouts from the co runners, was just an experience I know I will treasure forever..and then the whole Stadium raising the roof...ok there isnt a roof...but ya know what I mean..when the last runners took the batons.......just wonderful. Sadly the Spanish team dropped their baton...yes I got teary.....again...the picture is of him being consoled...bless

incredible, incredible

  1. I had never heard of the paralympics before I read you blogs. And knowing that an entire stadium cooperated for this one....WOW. And, yes, I get teary whenever ANYONE loses by dropping the baton, falling, etc. They have worked so diligently, I just have to cry. Thanks for all these wonderful insights. They are greatly appreciated. You are greatly appreciated.
